Concert for Arthur – 125 years on

A CONCERT to mark 125 years since Arthur Wharton became the world’s first black professional footballer takes place on Friday.

The gig, organised by Love Music Hate Racism, takes place at the Titans Rugby Bar on Clifton Lane, where Arthur played for Rotherham Town after signing in 1889.

The event starts at 8pm, entry is free and headline artists will be Toein’ In The Dark.

Meanwhile, a second statue of goalkeeper Arthur will be erected to mark the 125-year milestone.

The Arthur Wharton Foundation’s sculpture will be unveiled at the FA’s National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent in May.
