Chance to dress-up for geek spectacular

COSTUME-lovers are gearing up for a one-day geek extravaganza featuring an all-star lineup of celebrity guests.

Game of Thrones actor Jennifer Keith, also known as Pixie Le Knot, joins a hot roster of screen talent visiting Magna on Saturday for Yorkshire Cosplay Con 7.

The Rotherham-born contortionist has just finished starring work on two feature films — horror thriller It Never Sleeps and touching drama My Feral Heart.

Joining her is Australian actor Virginia Hey, who has appeared in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, Bond film The Living Daylights and TV sci-fi Farscape.

Michael Henbury is Britain’s smallest man at 2ft 11in tall and has featured in Star Wars, Willow and Harry Potter.

And — for fans of four-wheeled celebrity — Knight Rider’s KITT will also put in an appearance.

Organiser Kathrine Furniss said: “We’ve outgrown the Doncaster Dome, where we held last year’s convention.

“We’re expecting 5,000 people this time so we’ve moved to a bigger venue, but preparations are going brilliantly and the guests are going to be fantastic.”

Cosplay involves dressing up as favourite characters from literature, TV, film or video games and joining other fans to take pictures and share tips.

The trend began in Japan, but it has since spread worldwide. Keen cosplayers may spend months working on a costume, trying to make it as accurate as possible.

Cosplay conventions usually include contests, with prizes given to the best dressed participants.

Please note that the convention takes place on April 4 — not on April 4 and 5, as previously advertised.
