Carol concert to boost charities

CHARITABLE Christmas cheer will be served up at a festive carol concert which aims to raise money for some of the town’s most worthy causes.

Members of the Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell are preparing to host the seasonal event which will bring together the Rotherham Town Band and the Double Octave Choir for a feast of festive tunes at Talbot Lane Methodist Church on December 12.

One of the event’s organisers, Dave Taylor, said that he hoped to make the event an annual fixture in the Rotary Club’s fund-raising calendar.

He said: “We’re really lucky to have secured the Rotherham Town Band and the Double Octave Choir.

“The quality of the music on the night will be excellent.

“This is the first time we’ve hosted a Christmas carol concert but we want to make it a real success so that we can get people back year-on-year. I want this to be an annual event.”

Among the charities being supported by the event are: Rotherham Cancer Care; Barnado’s Young Carers; MS Therapy Centre Rotherham; People In Need World-wide; and The Samaritans.

Tickets for the Rotary Club’s carol concert are priced at £5 — under 11s are free — and include light refreshments on the night.
