Cancelled Civic Theatre show rearranged after roof damage

A PRODUCTION of Sweeney Todd at Rotherham Civic Theatre which had to be postponed after part of the venue’s roof collapsed has been rearranged.

Rotherham Teachers Student Academy (RTSA) will now perform the show from Tuesday, April 26 until Saturday, April 30.

Jo Longworth, theatre manager, said two small pieces of wood had come loose in the ceiling area above the stage, forcing them to cordon off the stage.

She confirmed a concert by folk singer Maddy Prior on Sunday had also been postponed.

Ms Longworth said: “The stage area has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure to allow the necessary repairs to be completed.

“There will be an inspection of the roof on Friday and we hope the theatre will be in a position to reopen within a few days.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to customers and we are working closely with the production company to hopefully offer alternative dates.

“In the meantime, we are contacting customers direct to inform them of the cancellation.”

Ms Longworth said she hoped the venue would reopen for a production of How the Koala Learnt To Hug on Monday.
