Belles bring burlesque to Wath

A NEW burlesque group is out to bring some daringly delightful entertainment to the Dearne Valley - and opening night is barely a week away.

The North’n Belles troupe founded by dancing nurse Katy North in Wath is going from strength to strength less than a couple of months after the fun kicked off.

Now the plucky members, who range in age from 20 to 50, are preparing to display their showgirl moves in their debut show at the town’s Montgomery Hall next Saturday, titled A Night of Temptation.

The show is for over-14s only but Katy said there would be no Full Monty at Monty Hall, adding that the Belles specialised in showgirl dancing but stopped short of striptease performances.

“It’s going to be like a cabaret set-up with tables and a bar and we’ll also have a couple of singers and a compere,” added the married mum of two.

Katy (pictured back row, far left), who has managed a dance school for 14 years, said she was in the process of opening her own dance studio while carrying on with her demanding day job.

She also plans to branch out into “baby burlesque” \_ but before you’re worried about anyone starting too young, Katy just means sessions for beginners.

It all sounds like quite a handful but she said her family were happily helping her out, adding: “I’ve always been busy so I’m just taking it all in my stride.”

And that stride will be taking Katy \_ along with her troupe-mates \_— onto the Montgomery Hall stage next Saturday.
