Astronomers watch this ‘Space’ in July

SPACE watchers from a local astronomical society have a busy July planned.

Members of Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society have a number of lectures by experts, a solar observing event and a public outreach initiative in their diaries.

Society meetings – all in the meeting room at Swinton Bottom Club on Station Road, Swinton – will feature an Astronomy Quiz on July 2, a talk by Mike Hall on Sex and Health in Space on July 9, Dr Stuart Muldrew’s talk on How To Build a Universe on July 16 and advice on Improving your Telescope’s Performance with John Timmins on July 30.

Another talk on July 23 has yet to be confirmed.

All meetings start at 7.45pm.

The society will be hosting a community access solar observing event on July 5 at the JA Jones Hoober Observatory on Lea Brook Lane, Wentworth, from 2pm to 5pm and on July 12 from 10am to 3pm people will have the chance to view the sun with society members at the RSPB’s Old Moor nature reserve in Manvers, Wath.
