Actress relishes “obsessive” role

PROMISING actress Vicky Hague is looking forward to one of her most unusual roles yet — playing a woman obsessed with oranges.

The Broom performer will play the love interest for the title character in Handsworth and Hallam Theatre Company’s production of Billy The Musical next week

“I am so please to have landed the role of Barbara,” said Vicky.

“She is so much fun with her obsession with oranges, whilst being very straight-laced.

“There is a song in which Barbara sings of how perfect life will be with Billy and their children that she dreams of having, whilst Billy is behind her singing about her being a witch and describing to the audience how he would like to bury her in a ditch.

“It’s difficult not burst out laughing when I know what is happening behind me when I am singing.

“I would say I am a little like my character in the fact that I like things tidy and organised, and I do really like oranges.”

The play is set in a fictional Yorkshire town and centres on Billy Fisher, a young industrial Yorkshire lad.

Juggling three women, a job in a funeral parlour and a tense home life, Billy (played by Rotherham’s Joseph Walker) reverts to childlike fantasy and dares to imagine another kind of life in London.

Billy will be performed at Montgomery Theatre in Sheffield June 17 to 20 at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee on the 20th.
