Reverend and the Makers bring hits to Mexborough

Ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been known to support the band and even appeared backstage for a gig in February.

AN ENGLISH rock band known for their belter anthem “Heavyweight Champion of the World” are set to perform in South Yorkshire next month.

Reverend and the Makers, from Sheffield, will take to the stage twice at Mexborough’s Imperial Music Venue on Cliff Street on May 1 to perform their new album ‘Heatwave in the Cold North’ along with “old bangers” from days gone past.

The group, fronted by Sheffield Wednesday supporter John McClure, reached the lofty heights of the UK top 10 singles charts when they broke onto the scene in 2008.

They have since supported bands such as Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kasabian and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds over the years as well as performing at Glastonbury.

John has been promoting the release of the new album by performing private gigs at people’s homes across the country including Rotherham, Manchester, Leeds and Wakefield.

Due to popular demand, the band will perform two shows at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
