Spectacular vessel sails in ahead of production of The Odyssey

AN EPIC journey requires epic transport — and a spectacular vessel is sailing into South Yorkshire next week.

A ten-metre galley will drop anchor in Doncaster next Saturday ahead of a production of The Odyssey at Cast.

The bamboo boat, named The Galley, is travelling around the country with the production collecting messages of remembrance from local communities. Int will appear at Doncaster Market from 10am to 2pm and outside Cast at 6pm to 7.30pm.

The second episode of The Odyssey — The Cyclops — is being staged at Cast next Saturday and Sunday.

This landmark community production taking place across England reimagines the adventures of Odysseus for today, in collaboration with artists and hundreds of community members.

Its first four episodes will take place across England, with performances in Doncaster, Stoke, Trowbridge and Sunderland throughout April before arriving at the National Theatre.

Its fifth and final episode will taking place on the Olivier stage in August featuring performers and elements from all four regional venues.

The second episode of this epic journey, The Cyclops, has been adapted by writer Tajinder Singh Hayer in collaboration with cast and a company of people from across Doncaster.

They have taken inspiration from The Odyssey to create a production using their own experiences and stories, and to explore “how we connect as a community”.
