Artist Steve Anwar, also known as Sapien, created and installed two sculptures titled Passage at its the Taylor Wimpey Fusion estate in Waverley.

The two sculptures are said to “represent the unique identity of Rotherham’s past, present, and future through the combining and designing of Corten steel plates”.

Steve said: “The sculptures take inspiration from the name Passage, meaning ‘the act of moving through or past somewhere, from one place to another.’

“I delved into the project focusing on the site’s unique identity and the importance of the miner's heritage.

“Being mindful of the sculptures environmental impact, the design consisted of steel plates which were laser cut utilising the whole sheet, therefore leaving very little waste lowering the carbon footprint.

“Passage One was a twisted sculpture, consisting of wing-like segments, as if they had been uprooted, twisted, and turned upside down by a storm.

“Passage Two had a geometric approach, tapering at the bottom symbolising the endless drop down into the earth, a vertical journey that the miners faced every day.”
