Rotherham comedian and Coronation Street star Duggie Brown dies at 82

COMEDIAN and former Coronation Street actor Duggie Brown has died at the age of 82.

The Rotherham star — born Barry Dudley — also appeared in the film Kes and on popular television programmes such as Brookside, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Heartbeat and Last of the Summer Wine.

He was best known for his clever wit and humour on the popular TV show The Comedians back in the 1970s.

His sister, Lynne Perrie, also from Rotherham, starred in Coronation Street as Ivy Tilsley before she died from a stroke in 2006 at the age of 74.

Lee Morgan, who represented Duggie, announced the news this morning (Tuesday) and said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that the very talented comedian and actor Duggie Brown passed away this morning with his wife Jackie by his side. 

“What an honour it was to work with Duggie. A born entertainer who loved his profession. 

“RIP Duggie Brown. We love and salute you.”

Comedian Tommy Cannon paid tribute, saying: “Really sad to hear about the passing of Duggie Brown, Rest in peace pal, what a funny funny man- thinking of all your friends and family.”
