A version of the sport at the heart of the Harry Potter films is part of the  half-term Phoenix Park Fun Day, which will take place between 11am and 2pm next Wednesday at the park in Thurnscoe, where a Platinum Jubilee-themed fun day was held at the same time last year (pictured).

Organiser Julie Turner said: “It’s great to have so many organisations involved in offering free activities for all ages.

“We have a Story Book Trail, the opportunity to dress up as book characters thanks to the donation of many costumes over recent months and entertainers coming to bring stories to life.

“Barnsley Libraries, Barnsley Museums and Dearne Churches Together will all be there offering crafts and activities connected with stories, and the Dearne Community Arts Festival will be gathering our own stories as part of their community art project to create 16 selfie boards in the area celebrating what goes on in our community all year round.”

Grassroots Sports Academy will be giving families the opportunity to take part in games and sports, including the Quidditch-like contest, and Ramp It Up will be on hand with cycling skills workshops.

There will also be food vans, face painting and the chance to have a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and make fairy houses with the Dearne Family Centre.

Volunteers are still being sought — contact Julie on 07729 421405 or at [email protected] if you can help out.
