PREVIEW: Cinderella at the Lyric Theatre is sure to be a ball

Dinnington Operatic Society (DOS) returns with its pantomime, Cinderella, on from January 22 to 29.

The well-known tale of despair, jealousy and true love, packed with laughter along the way, is sure to be a ball.

The lead role of Cinderella is played by Sophie Keady alongside DOS regular Scott Walker as the prince.

Sophie wowed audiences in the society’s performance of 9 to 5, in their last show before lockdown, and her stunning solo song will leave audiences reaching for their tissues.

In stark contrast the wicked stepmother and her two daughters will leave audiences booing right to the finale, expertly played by DOS regulars Samantha Smedley, John Green and Mark Wareing.

Of course no panto would be complete without a fairy and a village idiot.

This year, the fairy is played by the very talented Joanne Thornewell, while Ashley Booker revives his usual and highly popular role of the village idiot in the guise of Buttons.

The inclusion of the Julie Turner Stage Academy adds a touch of cabaret, razzle dazzle and cuteness.

The show has been written by Tom Whalley, directed by Louise Selden, choreographed by Kirstie Turnbull and features a live band conducted by Jon Wilby.
