Paul’s selfies raise a ‘Chuckle’ in aid of Marie Curie

CHUCKLE Brother Paul Elliott enjoyed a day of selfies and smooches as shoppers went daffy for a charity’s spring campaign.

The Rotherham comedy legend spent Saturday morning in York city centre to help Marie Curie Cancer Care launch its annual Great Daffodil Appeal fundraiser.

Fans of all ages waited in line to grab a selfie with Paul, while more romantic admirers couldn’t resist giving the star of stage, screen and recording studio a quick peck on the cheek.

Paul grabbed a collection bucket and matching yellow hats and daffodil pins to help raise money to care for and support people living with terminal illnesses.

The Marie Curie ambassador said: “I’m always happy to help out Marie Curie whenever I can.

“They’re an amazing charity and their nurses do such important work.

“I hope I’ve helped people to know that their daffodil appeal’s happening and that everyone should grab themselves a daffodil.

“It’s been great meeting people in York today.

“There’s a few hen parties in town and also the Viking festival on, so there’s definitely a buzz in the air.

“The Vikings who paraded along The Shambles were a bit scary but they all wanted selfies with me so they can’t be that fearsome.”

Gemma Hewitt, Marie Curie community fundraiser said: “Paul is a star of my childhood as he is for many other people so it’s just so great to have him here today to support Marie Curie.

“Nearly everyone who's taken a selfie with Paul today has also given a donation and taken a daffodil to wear.
