New members needed as Stars in Our Eyes celebrates 20 years

A LONG-running musical soundalike group celebrating the hits of a galaxy of pop stars is marking its 20th anniversary with a callout for new members.

Stars in Our Eyes Roadshow is already booked up for a string of shows this year but group manager Yvonne Rufus said more performers were needed to help them put on a stellar show.

Members of the current line-up are inviting supporters to join them for a celebration party at Denaby Main Institute — their rehearsal base — from 7.30pm next Saturday, February 18.

“Everybody will be welcome and there will be entertainment provided,” she said.

“There is going to be a buffet and it’s open to everyone just to say thank you, but no children please.

“The anniversary of our first show will be in March but we are unable to celebrate in March because of our commitment with the social clubs.”

Stars in Our Eyes arera charity music group have raised thousands over the years with tributes to stars including Dolly Parton, Freddie Mercury, Shania Twain and Lady Gaga among others.

“It all started in 2003 with a show at Grove Social Club in Conisbrough for a local boy called Morgan Young who had (genetic disorder) Angelman Syndrome and needed needed money for equipment,” said Yvonne.

“We had a concert with a lot of current karaoke singers and put the show together with promoter Juddy Hamshaw.

“We managed to raise a couple of thousand pounds and since then we have gone from strength to strength.

“In 2015, we received the British Empire Medal from the Queen for all our charity work.”

Yvonne added: “We are already full up with concerts booked all the way up until Christmas but we are now in a position to offer another two places to singers.

“We have a lot of people already, but to keep going and putting on a good show, we need more.”
