Wood staying with Millers

DEFENDER Richard Wood is staying with Rotherham United after signing a one-year deal, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 30-year-old emerged to play a pivotal role in the Millers' dash to Championship safety last season after his future had at one stage looked uncertain. He had spells on loan at Chesterfield and Fleetwood Town.

Wood admits it was an easy decision to stay and is now hoping to impress new boss Alan Stubbs.

"I'm very happy. After the last couple of seasons I just wanted to get my future sorted out in the Championship," he said.

"It was straight-forward and I agreed it before I went away on holiday. Obviously I've been away for a few weeks but now I'm back and I've come in to sign it and it's all done and dusted now and I'm ready to kick on."

News is still awaited on the other three players offered new terms — Kirk Broadfoot, Stephen Kelly and Matt Derbyshire.
