Willett gets Tour breakthrough

GOLFER Danny Willett has set his sights on more honours after carding a welcome first European Tour win over the weekend.

The Rotherham Golf Club pro beat Australian Marcus Fraser in a tense play-off to win the BMW International Open in Cologne and a first prize of nearly £270,000.

Chasing a maiden win after 19 top-ten finishes, Willett (24) lost a three-stroke lead before keeping his cool to shoot a par at the fourth play-off hole to take the title.

"It was amazing; a tough day," he said.

"I've had some ups and downs over the last 18 months but I'm injury-free now and I want to thank everybody for the support they've given me."

Willett, a former English amateur champion, couldn't take his form into yesterday as he missed out on qualification for The Open.

He shot rounds of 70 and 71 at Sunningdale, short by four shots.
