We'll bounce back, says Evans

A DEFIANT Steve Evans vowed “We will bounce back” after last night’s defeat at Northampton Town.

The Rotherham United manager was happy with how his team played, despite the 2-1 defeat, saying: “We failed, but not in terms of the performance. It was the best going back through all of pre-season.”

They were on top for large periods of the game but failed to make the breakthrough at 1-1 and lost to a late goal, but Evans to praise his troops.

“We were trying to force a winner and we got caught on the break.” he said “It was sloppy from a defensive point of view but when you look at the DVD there were some big decisions. Our performance for 65 to 70 minutes was outstanding."

The Millers were left wondering what they had to do to find a second a goal, with Evans adding: "We should have won and their goalkeeper made three or four great saves. We had one or two chances we should have finished better so we need to take it on the chin."

The home side took the lead after 25 minutes with a fine strike from Chris Hackett.

Ben Pringle fired Rotherham level four minutes before half time but a breakaway goal from Alex Nicholls in the final five minutes decided it.

The Millers travel to the Proact Stadium on Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways against Chesterfield. Kick-off is 3pm with tickets still on sale from Mangham House.
