We showed character, says Raynor

ASSISTANT manager Paul Raynor saluted Rotherham United's character after their comeback win against Oxford United.

Trailing in the early stages, the Millers powered back to win 3-1 at the New York Stadium on Saturday with a brace from midfielder Michael O'Connor and a late effort from substitute Jason Taylor.

The win lifted them to within a point of the play-off frame in League Two and Raynor, who again took charge of the side in the absence of the suspended Steve Evans, was largely happy with what he saw.

He said: "We seem to start games sluggishly and that's something we've got to think about but to go a goal behind and win shows the character we've got.

"There can be doubts when you're 1-0 down at home and the crowd are a little bit quiet. You need to get them off their seats and give them something to shout about and we did that.

"We got a grip and started creating chances. When you hit the post and crossbar you think it might not be your day, but we kept going and got our reward."

Rotherham go to fourth-placed Accrington Stanley tomorrow night (7.45pm).
