'We must raise our sights' says Collins

AMBITIOUS Danny Collins insists the Millers have to set their sights higher than mere Championship survival as they prepare to launch into the future under a new manager.

Despite the upheaval of Steve Evans' departure and the wait for his successor, the stand-in skipper says there's a good vibe around the first team at the moment.

Although he says the setback against Burnley hasn't punctured the mood, he believes the next manager will inherit a group of players who need to look beyond keeping their heads above water.

Collins said: “The priority last season was to stay in the league but for the fans and the players ourselves, our ambitions have got to be bigger than that this year.

“We got off to a bad start and then got ourselves out of the bottom three last week and if we'd beaten Burnley we'd have been sitting something like 13th and looking comfortable going into the weekend. But we've got to take the postives from the match, there were some good performances out there. Even though the result didn't go our way, there's a good atmosphere around the place and hopefully that continues after the international break.”
