Youngsters line up for Schools Games

ALMOST 1,000 schoolchildren from across South Yorkshire will come together today to compete in the South Yorkshire School Games summer festival.

Schools from across South Yorkshire will compete across eight different sports against their counterparts from Rotherham,  Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield all bidding to be crowned South Yorkshire champions in their respective sports.

The majority of the festival – including the opening ceremony - will take place at Abbeydale Sports Club, with the Sheffield Hallam University athletics stadium playing host to the athletics, and orienteering being held at Graves Park.

The Games are set to be opened by Suzy Petty, who was this week named in the England Women's Hockey squad for the World Cup that is starting later this month in London.
