What happened to Maltby Old Boys rugby team?

The rugby union side are believed to have disbanded in the 1990s.

Stuart Sheard is researching Maltby Old Boys for a book about how rugby union clubs coped with the introduction of league rugby in 1987.

He said: “I remember going to watch a Maltby Old Boys game once behind Maltby Grammar School and I would like to know why and when they went under.

“Before leagues came in teams would play other sides once — about 11 fixtures —  then it went to home and away.

“It was harder in the leagues, very competitive, and some clubs didn't adapt, so it would be fascinating to speak to anyone with information about the Old Boys.”

Stuart is the author of the book The Other Rugby — the Story of Rugby League in Rotherham, which was published in 2016.
