Webb waits on World Cup final decision

HOWARD Webb is still waiting to hear whether he'll referee Sunday's World Cup Final.

The 38 year old from Rotherham is one of several officials in with a chance of getting the nod for Sunday's showpiece in Johannesburg, having been made favourite by the bookies following three iron-fisted performances so far in South Africa.

Webb will be considered by FIFA chiefs regardless of who makes the final, despite yesterday's speculative - and inaccurate - reports that he would have been discounted had Uruguay gone through last night against Holland. It was an Uruguayan referee who disallowed Frank Lampard's goal against Germany in the second round.

Webb has been rested for the quarter and semi finals, leading to speculation that he will get the big one or at least the third placed game on Saturday night.
