The Millers entered stoppage time at ASSEAL New York Stadium 3-1 ahead and were heading comfortably for victory in their battle to stay in the second tier.

But they conceded a 93rd-minute penalty, converted by Charlie Mulgrew, to set up a nerve-wracking finish.

"Our games are nothing if not entertaining," Warne said. “It's three massive points in this league. To get three points, when not playing so well, is a treat."

Rotherham led after two minutes through Semi Ajayi but Rovers equalised with an Amari'i Bell volley just after the break.

Ryan Williams and Ajayi, with his second header of the game, put the home side in control before Mulgrew struck late on.

“We were a bit nervy. It sounds a stupid thing to say, but I think we scored too early.," said Warne whose team are unbeaten in their last six outings.

“I have been critical of the team for not taking chances but we took 100 per cent of our chances today. Beating Blackburn gives the lads a bit of confidence.

“It felt like their equaliser coming. I think Blackburn are a really good team. When they scored it kind of took the pressure of our lads because it was all equal again."

Only a 90th-minute Reading winner at Ipswich Town stopped the Millers climbing out of the bottom three, while Millwall are back in the relegation mix after losing at home to Norwich City.

“Overall I am really proud of the points and the lads for digging in," Warne added. "All we can do is try to win and it looks like we have pulled other teams into it."

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray said: "If you can't head the ball out of your own box, you're in trouble."
