Vuckic to use Milelrs as springboard for top

HARIS Vuckic wants to use his stay at the Rotherham United as a springboard to better things.

The Slovenian midfielder has talent and he grabbed the headlines for parent club Newcastle United last year when he came on and scored the winner against Greek side Atromitos to send them into the group stages of the Europa League.

Vuckic (21), who spent time on loan with Cardiff City, got a few minutes as a late substitute against Gillingham on Saturday.

With competition fierce for midfield places, he may have to wait for his chance but there was an immediate outing for clubmate, and fellow on-loan man, James Tavernier.

As equally adept on the left side of defence as he was on the right, and adding a goal, the 22-year-old couldn't have had a better start.

Manager Steve Evans said: "James Tavernier deserved his goal in the second half because he was denied ten minutes earlier by an absolutely stunning save. But his was one of many outstanding performances (on the day)."
