Virgin gun for cash windfall

VIRGIN Racing are aiming to finish top of the new Formula One teams with their sights set on a multi-million windfall—but they will have to pull their socks up in the second half of the season.

The top ten teams in this year’s championship table will receive financial rewards and it could be worth about £17 million to the Dinningtonm taem.

But Virgin are currently running bottom of the 12-team pack after a difficult start. Teams finishing in the bottom two of the table will not get any cash award.

John Booth’s team are battling for 10th place with Lotus and Hispania Racing, the other two newcomers but they know they ahve to hit a thread of reliability with their two cars. Lotus currently hold tenth place due to Heikki Kovalainen's 13th position in the Australian Grand Prix, while Hispania Racing are 11th by the virtue of Karun Chandhok's two 14th places in Australia and Monaco.

Virgin, who have managed just five finished this season, are bottom thanks to Lucas di Grassi's single 14th in Malaysia.
