Tunisian defender joins Millers

ROTHERHAM United have snapped up Tunisian defender Aymen Belaid on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Strong and versatile, the 27-year-old centre-half has spent the last year with Levski Sofia in Bulgaria and becomes Neil Redfearn’s first permanent signing of the January transfer window.

French-born, Abaid has youth and international honours with Tunisia. He started his career in France and moved to the Czech Republic, spending two years at Sparta Prague, before a spell back in France with Grenoble.

Redfearn said: “Belaid comes from a decent standard at Levski Sofia. He’s got a good pedigree and a lot of clubs were interested in him. He’s very athletic, naturally left-footed and at 6ft 2in he’s got a physical presence. He can play left-back, centre-back or in midfield.”
