Toseland's Portuguese battle

JAMES Toseland came away from the second World Superbike round in Portugal with plenty of credit, despite a qualifying howler which saw him start from 15th on the grid.

The Kiveton rider came through unscathed after crashing in the qualifying session, but respective results of sixth and seventh at the Portimao track left him pleased with the outcome.

Toseland heads to the third round in Spain in 11th, tied on points with his team-mate with 25.

He said: "Considering that and starting from 15th on the grid we achieved some good results. It's a shame we started on the back foot this year but we're moving on and we're keeping on pushing."
