Toseland happy despite fall

ROTHERHAM'S James Toseland admitted he took one step forward and two steps back during World Superbike round five after climbing the podium but crashing out at Monza.

Toseland is one of the form riders in the world paddock and further proved that claiming a fourth podium finish from his last five races with second in race one.

The 29-year-old had his sights set on his first win of the season in between races but suffered heartache after being clipped by Japan's Noriyuki Haga before the first corner of the first lap.

Toseland went crashing down taking fellow Brit Jonathan Rea and Spaniard Ruben Xaus with him as Italian Max Biaggi completed back-to-back victories on home soil.

And the former double World Superbike champion cut an understandably frustrated figure after being cruelly denied the chance to upgrade his race one finish during race two.

"I had a real strong outing in race one but what a frustrating way for things to end," said Toseland - whose Yamaha Sterilgarda teammate Crutchlow joined him on the podium in third during race one.

"The bike is strong on the brakes and I knew I had to take advantage of that but what happened in race two was so disappointing."
