ROTHERHAM Titans won't be kicking their traditional summer training window into touch when they eventually report back for the new season.
With no competitive rugby for clubs the length and breadth of the country in more than a year, the temptation might have been to get to work early in time for the 2021/22 campaign, expected to start in September.
But Titans, who are plotting a quick return to English rugby's third tier after relegation, intend peaking at the right time.
Head coach Steve Salvin said: “The start date is to be confirmed but it won't be massively different to what it would be in a normal season.
“It is a fairly unique situation in that getting bodies ready for contact again is going to be a slightly longer process. We can't lose sight of the fact we have a 30-game season to play and if we start bringing the players back too early then the boredom factor potentially kicks in when you don't want it to.
“We want to keep it as close to normal as possible. We don't want to be in a position where we are at our very best a month or six weeks before the season starts.”
