Titans sign rugby legend

GO-AHEAD Rotherham Titans are to sign rugby legend Henry Paul.

It is understood that the 35-year-old former league and union international will come to Clifton Lane on a one-year deal, becoming the club’s highest-profile acquisition.

Paul was at Clifton Lane yesterday to meet senior club officials and he is expected to put pen to paper today, barring any last-minute hitches. The signing will firmly establish Rotherham’s Championship credentials and will be a big hit with fans.

The player shot to fame in Super League with Wigan and Bradford Bulls before switching to union in a highly-publicised switch to Gloucester.

Paul was was latterly with Leeds Carnegie and when he was released this summer, Titans were quick to step in and offer him a contract—and the ambitious Lane men say he will become a powerhouse figure in the club’s backs division.

Said head coach Andre Bester: “Henry’s been there and done it all, but the important thing is that he still has a hunger to be a winner.

He’s one of those guys who has never failed and he is still as fit as they come. He’s got the psyche that he wants to stay at the top in the game—and he wants to do it with us.

“He believes he can step up and be a success wherever he plays. This is about Henry himself wanting to do it.”
