ANDY Key won’t read anything into Saturday’s friendly beating at Kingston Park as Titans were crushed 59-14 by their Premiership opponents.
“It’s all about that first game against Nottingham,” he said. “Although we will use all the pre-season games to make sure we are as sharp as we can be come that game.
“You have to test yourselves and what better way to do that than against a side like Newcastle.”
The Falcons ran in nine tries as they went through the gears, going ahead after only ten minutes and never looking back.
To their credit Rotherham never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts when, at 26-0 down, they broke down the left and Drew Cheshire scored from a line-out. Lee Millar converted.
Their second try came in the second period, making the most of a sin-binning for new signing Ryan Burrows as Ifereimi Boladau crashed through with Caolan Ryan converting.
Rotherham continue their warm-up this Saturday when they head to Coventry for a more realistic test of theit mettle.
