Freezing temperatures mean Goldington Road was unplayable as the Record went to press and with snow forecaset to move southward, chances of the Championship game going ahead look even slimmer.

A Bedford spokesman said yesterday:?“The team trained on it on Monday night but rugby director Mike Rayer said he would be very surprised if it thawed in time for Saturday’s game to go on.”

It means Rotherham won’t have played since December 19, when they lost in icy conditions at London Welsh.

The Lane men will now have to address a fixture backlog with–if Saturday’s game is off–three games needing to be rescheduled.
