Swallownest FC's game off after Covid-19 cases in camp

SWALLOWNEST FC's Northern Counties East League fixture this weekend has been postponed after several players tested positive for Covid-19.

Half a dozen squad members, plus manager Alex Nightingale, are affected and now another date will be found for their Division One fixture away to Shirebrook Town.

"We have put seven months of hard work in and then we are struck with Covid. It's frustrating," said Alex.

The Swallows' next scheduled fixture is a local derby at home to Parkgate next Saturday, by which time it is hoped no more in the camp will have been sidelined by positive tests or self-isolation.

"If most of the lads come out of insolation by Thursday or Friday then I'm hoping we will have a better chance of playing that game," added Alex. "It just means we won't be able to train, which is frustrating again.

"We will just have to see what happens between now and then."

Parkgate, meanwhile, will look to build upon their opening-day win at Retford FC when they host Harrogate Railway at Roundwood tomorrow (3pm).

Maltby Main go to fellow top-flight side Barton Town in the FA Cup, with £1,125 in prize money and a place in the premilinary round on offer for the winners.
