Sunday football aces ready for national cup

LOCAL football champions Joker are venturing into a national knockout competition for the country's most successful Sunday teams.

The Bramley side are to play in the FA Sunday Cup, a “best of the best” tournament which gives champions the length and breadth of the country a chance to pit their wits against each other.

Joker have swept the board in recent times, winning the Sheffield Senior Cup two years in a row.

“We're all buzzing for it,” said manager Andy Battersby.

“We've won the 'quad' in the last two seasons and wanted to give the lads something to aspire towards. We had to present a case to be selected and we've got the full backing of the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA.”

After receiving a first-round bye, Joker will be at home to Pineapple FC from Liverpool in the second round on November 11. Ground regulations mean the tie and any future ties will be played at Maltby's Muglet Lane.

Added Andy. “The north east and Liverpool teams are particularly strong and I understand we are the first club from the Sheffield and Hallamshire area to take part.

“The first two rounds are regionalised and after that it goes national but with the strength of our squad and us being our own County Cup champions, I'd like to think we have a good chance of doing well.”

Andy also wishes to thank Maltby Main for their support.
