Strongmen wow Show crowds at the Rotherham Highland Games

IT might not have the dramatic peaks of Scotland as the backdrop, but Clifton Park hosted this year's popular Rotherham Highland Games.

Eleven strongmen competed for the title, wowing the spectators at the Rotherham Show with some impressive feats of strength in the challenge run by Man Beast.

Athletes from Yorkshire, Lincoln, Hull and Stoke took part in giant log press, caber toss, stone throw, stone carry and the world strongman favourite, atlas stone.

Special judge was Yorkshire’s strongest man, Jake Rideout, with Mark Anglesea, two-times Guinness world record holder, as head referee.

Before the final event, a popular tug of war took place between the kids in the crowd and the strongmen — to the roar of familes.

The strongmen won the first round, the children the second, and the third round the children again — with a little help from the current Peak District Highland Games 2021 champion Dave Thornton.
