Stage set for Euro U17s final

ITALY take on the Netherlands in the final of the European U17s Championships at the AESSEAL New York Stadium today (6.15pm).

The Dutch put England out on penalties in their semi-final at Chesterfield on Thursday evening after a goalless draw. Netherlands had six successful attempts before Arsenal's Folarin Balogun saw his kick saved by Joey Koorevaar.

Italy overcame Belgium 2-1 in the other semi at the NYS on Thursday afternoon. The Azzurri took the lead on 30 minutes through Emmanuel Gyabuaa before Yorbe Vertessen equalised in the second half.

A great finish from Edoardo Vergani on 71 minutes restored Italy’s lead and they held on.

The Italians will have a slight advantage going into the final, the match being their third in succession at the New York Stadium.  They beat Sweden 2-1 there in the quarter-finals  last Sunday.

Making their NYS debut in the tournament, the Netherlands will be looking to become Euro U17s champions for the third time.
