Stadium could get more big games

ROTHERHAM United’s New York Stadium is in line for more internationals after praise was heaped on the club following Sunday’s England Ladies game.

And, says Millers chairman Tony Stewart, it could even be full England U21 games.

Nearly 5,000 turned up for the match, which England won 1-0 against big guns Canada in a warm-up game for this summer’s European Championships, and the FA bigwigs were delighted with the whole show.

Said Stewart: “We had positive comments all round, from the Canadians and the FA.

“The Canadians said that the New York Stadium is better than anything they have back home and the FA were really pleased.

“They were happy with the friendliness and felt it was a good job all round. They have already said they will now consider us for England U21 games and officials will speak to team manager Stuart Pearce about it.

“If we can get those games it’s a massive boost for the New York Stadium and for the town.
