Squad Builder initiative proving a winner with Rotherham Titans followers

RUGBY lovers have given a flying start to a new initiative designed to help forge a better financial future for Rotherham Titans.

The rugby club has launched a new lottery aimed at establishing a regular, sustainable income after a turbulent 12 months caused by the pandemic.

The so-called Squad Builder asks contributors to pay £5 at the start of each month to go into a monthly draw in which a winner gets 50 per cent of all the money taken that month.

The other proceeds go directly towards squad investment.

Titans were aiming for 100 participants to start with but burst through that barrier in less than a week and were up to 150 subscribers at the last count.

Titans commercial director John Whaling said: “We are so grateful for the support we have had so far.

“Times have been difficult. Our bar at Clifton Lane had to close and we have been without income a lot longer than we expected. Realistically it is not going to re-open for a while yet.

“We were looking at ways to help and this seems a pretty good idea and it has legs. It can run for a long time and hopefully it will grow.

“We would like to think further down the line it will be 200 and then 300, who knows?”

Anyone interested in taking part is asked to email Tony Jenkinson at [email protected] for him to allocate a number and then set up a standing order for £5.
