Snooker man Ashley Carty bows out of Championship League tournament after good run

SNOOKER player Ashley Carty's brave run in the matchroom.Live Championship League came to an end last night.

The 24-year-old from Thurcroft went out at the last 16 stage having sensationally beaten world number two Neil Robertson and another former world champion, Ken Doherty, in last Sunday's Group 16 qualifiers.

Those successes put him into another-four strong group in yesterday's tournament played behind closed doors at Milton Keynes' Marshall Arena.

Carty got off to a good start by beating Gary Wilson 3-1. A 3-1 defeat in his second game against Luca Brucel left him needing to beat Mark Joyce in his final match to top Group A and go through to the final four but the Walsall potter prevailed 3-1.

Brecel progresses to today's Tournament Final group where he will play off against Ryan Day, Stuart Bingham and Ben Woollaston for the trophy and £20,000 to add to the £10,00 they have already secured in the tournament.

Carty, the world number 83, has the consolation of a much-needed £5,500 in prize money and the satisfaction of beating some big names.

He will now concentrate on the forthcoming World Championship qualifiers.
