Shearer seeks happy ending

FIT-AGAIN Scott Shearer is desperate to end a miserable season as a promotion-winning number one.

Recalled to the side after five months out injured, the Scottish stopper wants to make sure all the hard weeks and months of rehabilitation from the double blow of a knee and then an elbow injury are worth it.

That means not just maintaining his grip on the number one jersey but helping fire the Millers over the promotion line.

After marking his recall with a clean sheet against AFC Wimbledon on Good Friday, Shearer showed some sharp reflexes in the defeat at Gillingham on Monday, whetting his appetite for the run-in.

He told the Advertiser: "I want to play now, that's what I'm here for. I've not had the best of seasons with injury but that's past now and I'm fit and ready and it's up to me.

"Since October it has been very hard; I've been stressing out Denis Circuit and Paul Warne every day but they have helped me loads and got me through a bad time. With me back in the team now, it's hopefully a silver lining to a difficult season."
