The defending champions beat Scawthorpe Athletic 4-1 in front of a crowd of more than 700 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium last night, with Duggan’s late treble proving the difference.

Leading through Danny South’s 38th minute header, Joker were pegged back by an own goal right on half time by a Scawthorpe side trying to become the first team from Doncaster to win the prized trophy.

Scawthorpe won their own league without losing a game this season and proved to be spirited opponents but it was Joker, the veterans of so many finals, who had the lion’s share of possession and the staying power.

Duggan drilled in his first of the night on 74 minutes and even though there was a scare moments later when Scawthorpe’s Shaun Munday miss-kicked right in front of goal, Joker swept straight downfield for Duggan to make it 3-1.

With the game stretched, the man of the match was allowed the time and space to complete his hat-trick and seal the deal.

The Senior Cup now sits alongside the Rotherham Association Cup Joker won last week.

Next up at the NYS is the Rotherham Charity Cup final between AFP and Westville on Monday (7pm).

More on that and the Joker game, including exclusive images, in next week’s Advertiser.
