School team bounces into cricket finals

SITWELL Junior School fly the flag for Rotherham in the South Yorkshire Kwik Cricket finals at Castleford next week.

They beat Thornhill Primary School to be crowned Rawmarsh Schools Sport Partnership Years 5 and 6 open champions from a pool of nine teams and then beat the Wickersley Schools Sport Partnership representatives in the Rotherham finals to win the right to represent the town.

The Rawmarsh leg was hosted and organised by Whiston Parish Church CC, with sports leaders from Oakwood Technology College and Dearne Valley College and coaches from the Whiston club and Thorpe Hesley CC acting as umpires and officials on the day.

The Rotherham finals were held at Rotherham Town CC.

Local youngsters interested in playing cricket are asked to contact their local schools sports co-ordinator.
