ATHLETES go under starter's orders in the annual Rowbothams Round Rotherham 50 Mile Trail Race and Relay this weekend.

The event, first run in 1983, follows a fast, relatively flat route on mostly good paths and tracks around the boundary of the borough.

Saturday's race starts and finishes at Manvers Waterfront Boat Club and the route is a mixture of old industrial areas being reclaimed by woodland, river and canal banks, and quiet farmland.

It starts at 7am.
