Sailing club relaunches this weekend

ULLEY Sailing Club relaunches this weekend three years since the disastrous floods of 2007.

A gala day on Sunday organised by Rotherham Borough Council will celebrate the reopening of the Ulley Country Park and reservoir after major reconstruction of the dam.

The club expects many of its members to launch their own boats on the day and there will be opportunities for the public to enjoy a brief spell afloat.

Visitors can also sign up for a longer sailing experience over the next few weeks and the club now very much welcomes new members after all the disruption it has suffered.

During the past year, though not able to sail at the club, members have put in a great deal of voluntary effort to refurbish the galley kitchen and duty cabin, to repaint the club room and maintain the boat park and surrounds so everything is completely shipshape and ready to go.

Ulley's own racing programme will be resumed on Sunday September 5 September and there will be an Enterprise Open Meeting on October 9 and a Streaker Open Meeting on October 16.

The Splash Open Meeting which had to postponed from August 21 is to be rearranged.
