Rotherham's Ashley Carty defeats former UK champ Stephen Maguire
SNOOKER pro Ashley Carty has taken the scalp of former UK Champion Stephen Maguire at the European Masters.
The Rotherham man beat the Scot 5-1 in qualifiers in Cannock, making breaks of 76, 54 and 89 along the way.
The victory will help the world no 70's efforts to get into the top 64 by the end of the season to keep his Tour place.
Carty goes forward to play Iran's Soheil Vahedi in the main event in Furth next year.
