Rotherham United have decision to make over another free agent

The Millers are looking to add to their attacking options after missing out on striker during the transfer window when one loan target opted for a different move and another was refused permission to leave by his parent club.

Manager Paul Warne had a 31-year-old forward with experience in Germany in for training last week but the player returned home when international clearance allowing him to appear in a reserve game failed to materialise.

"There is a potential for another free agent but there is a character wobble there so that is the hard decision to make," said the boss who takes his Championship side to Hull City tomorrow

"If his character is not right but he is a good player do I risk it for three months to the end of the season or do I keep the status quo?"

Warne would want to see the player in second-string action before committing himself to any deal.

The Millers, who drew 1-1 at home to Wigan Athletic last Saturday, are locked in a battle to preserve their second-tier status and are resigned to losing forward Kyle Vassell for a spell as he continues to struggle with a groin problem.

"If there is an option out there that will help us, then we will have to investigate it," Warne said. "At the moment, I think Vass will have to undergo the knife so that leaves us with only Michael Smith and Jerry Yates up front.

"Although Jerry has had a good season, it is a big ask for him to play up front alone potentially. We would have to look at a completely different system to allow us to play a different way."

Attacker Ryan Williams should be available for tomorrow's trip to the Tigers after recovering from hamstring injury.
