Rotherham United exit for head of recruitment Jamie Johnson

The club say that Johnson's exit is amicable and comes as part of restructuring programme.

He had come in for criticism from some fans for the lack of signings in the January transfer window when the Millers brought in only one new player.

A club statement issued today said: "Rotherham United can confirm the club and head Jamie Johnson have amicably agreed to part following a restructure of the recruitment department.

"The club would like to place on record our thanks to Jamie for his contribution during a successful period for the Millers which culminated in our promotion back to the Championship at the end of the 2017/18 season."

Johnson joined Rotherham in December 2016 after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion and was instrumental in the arrival of left-back Ben Purrington from Plymouth Argyle for around £300,000 the following month.

Purrington is now on loan at League One Charlton Athletic.

The Millers statement added: "During his time with the Millers, Jamie set up a professional recruitment and analytical department, which included helping to identify players who were instrumental in last season’s promotion, and this season’s efforts in the Championship.

"Jamie has brought an organised and professional approach to his work at Rotherham United, and we would like to thank him for his efforts.

"Everyone would like to wish Jamie well for the future."
