Manager Paul Warne won't stand in the way of any players who ask to leave Rotherham United in the next transfer window.

The boss understands that some of his fringe men might prefer to go to clubs where they will be first-team picks rather than warm the Millers bench.

He paved the way for possible January exits by saying any players unhappy at AESSEAL New York Stadium could depart with his blessing.

“I wouldn't want to keep anyone who didn't want to be here." he said.

"If anyone who is not playing were to come to me and say they didn't think they were getting a fair crack or not getting the opportunities, I wouldn't force them to stay."

Men like Anthony Forde and Matty Palmer played their part in Rotherham's League One promotion last season but have found game-time hard to come by this term in the Championship.

“If Fordey, for example, didn't play any minutes between now and January and something suitable came up for him then that would be fine," Warne said. "That would be the same for anyone.

“I get it that if you're not in the team it's hugely frustrating, especially if you think you are doing everything right.

“It is difficult for me. There is no-one who I don't like as a person or a footballer at this club but I also understand that I can pick only 11 of them.

“With all sincerity, I haven't got an idea that a certain two or three could leave. That isn't the case. They just have to be patient and then when they get their opportunity they have to be better than the person they replace.”

After earning draws in their last two away matches, at Middlesbrough and Preston North End, the Millers are at home to Swansea City on Saturday.
