It was against the Manchester side at Clifton Lane in September that Rotherham suddenly clicked after an iffy start to the season.

They won 32-27 to collect their first bonus-point win and then went on to reel off four more victories, establishing themselves as genuine promotion contenders in National One.

“The Sale game was the start of a good run for us. We got some momentum and this, potentially, is the same,” said back rower Poole, who plundered the late try that forged last Saturday's last gasp 21-20  victory against Birmingham Moseley.

“I remember  that our wingers did a good job and got under the high ball but we also shut Sale down and we'll look to do the same. We'll analyse them and what they can offer but at the end of the day it is about us, not them.”

Head coach Joe Barker added: "It was a good game against Sale. They’ve got a lot of young lads but also some experienced lads and we will go there with some confidence but we have to be harsh on ourselves this week to perform how we want to perform.”

Titans sit fifth in National One, six points behind leaders Blackheath. Despite being in the lower reaches, Sale have actually scored more points than Rotherham this term but have the third worst defensive record in the section. Only bottom side Loughborough and Birmingham Moseley have conceded more.

The match takes place at Sale FC’s Heywood Road ground with a 3pm kick-off.
